Firearm offences

Two arrested, shotgun seized in Battleford

Aug 18, 2022 | 12:00 PM

Battlefords RCMP have charged a 45-year-old man with multiple firearms offences after executing a search warrant in Battleford yesterday.

The Battlefords Gang Task Force searched a residence in the 400 block of 33rd Street, Battleford and seized a sawed-off shotgun and ammunition.

A female suspect, 35-year-old Bobbi Fineday, was also arrested in the residence and held for court on one new charge and several outstanding warrants not related to this investigation.

The man, Jordon Armstrong, has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 26.

His charges include possession of a prohibited firearm without a licence, with readily accessible ammunition, while unauthorized and for a dangerous purpose. Armstrong also faces unsafe storage of a firearm while Fineday is charged with identity fraud.

Text scams

Saskatchewan RCMP are warning the public to remain vigilant when receiving unsolicited text messages, following a text message scam that has been recently reported within the province. Regina Police Service also alerted the public to reports of similar scams received within the City of Regina.

In each report, the complainant received a text message from a sender claiming to be from an escort company, accusing the victim of having used their services without paying, demanding payment and advising that if they do not pay, their family or friends will be in danger. These text messages have also been accompanied by graphic images of violent scenarios including assaults and homicides.

RCMP are advising residents to never provide personal or sensitive information to the requestor and never send money, even if the message sounds urgent.

Anyone contacted by a scammer can report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre — even if you didn’t give them any money (antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca/report-signalez-eng.htm or 1-888-495-8501). Those who lost money should contact local police, as well as the Anti-Fraud Centre.
