Lakers, Brewers ready for Game 2 of NSRBL final

The Standard Hill Lakers and Wilkie Brewers will meet for Game 2 of the North Sask River Baseball League final, Tuesday night at Silver Lake.

The Lakers lead the best-of-three finals series 1-0, following a 4-3 victory in Thursday’s series opener, with a chance to clinch their first league championship since 2019 with a win.

Lakers veteran, Brant Franks, said while the team is no doubt excited for the opportunity ahead, the key to finding success will be to trust the process and ‘keep our eyes on the prize.’

“We just need to take it one out and one inning at a time,” Franks said. “It doesn’t matter the lead you’ve got, you just take it one step at a time, because especially in this league, it’s not over until it’s over.”

That sentiment of staying present in the moment will also be key for the Brewers, who enter Tuesday’s contest with their season on the line heading into the second game.

Brewers player/coach, Mike Sittler, said with their backs against the wall, the team must bring their best in Game 2 to force a third and deciding game on Wednesday.

“We win we live another day, we lose we’re done for the year, so the guys are anxious and ready to go,” Sittler said. “We know it will be another big crowd at Silver Lake there tonight, and we’ll be ready to go.”

Should the Brewers win and extend the series, the third and deciding game of the series will be played Wednesday night in Wilkie.

Tuesday’s game at Silver Lake will begin at 6 p.m.
