One of the individuals facing charges in the Tiki Laverdiere homicide investigation is now scheduled for a sentencing later this month after previously pleading guilty to manslaughter.

Shayla Orthner, 30, of North Battleford, pleaded not guilty to the charge of first-degree murder, but guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter at the Court of Queen’s Bench in Battleford in April.

On Friday, Justice R.W. Danyliuk received submissions from Crown prosecutors, Chris Browne and Charlotte Morden, and Defence attorney, Patrick McDougall, during the sentencing hearing.

The case has now been adjourned to Aug. 26 at 1:30 p.m. for a decision on the sentencing.

The court ordered a publication ban on all details of the court proceedings, including evidence and victim impact statements, until the judge or jury involving all the accused have retired to consider their verdict.

Laverdiere, 25, was reported missing on May 12, 2019. She was last seen in North Battleford on May 1, 2019. Human remains were found in a rural area outside of North Battleford on July 11, 2019 and confirmed to be the Edmonton woman on July 16 of that year.
