Fred Light Museum’s Family Fun Day carries on in style despite rain

Aug 5, 2022 | 3:09 PM

Families didn’t seem to mind a little rain in Battleford Friday as many came out to take part in the Fred Light Museum’s Family Fun Day event.

Museum manager, Bernadette Leslie, was glad to see so much support, even with the rain.

“It’s unfortunate the weather is like it is, but we are having a good turnout,” she said. “So I’m pleased.”

The museum manager said the event is an opportunity to promote the museum and bring the community together.

Leslie added it’s also a chance to let families visit the museum attractions, so they can learn more, and just have fun.

“People are looking for stuff to do, so Family Fun Day is one way that they can enjoy coming out as a family and have a good time,” she said.

The event included a scavenger hunt inside the museum, a Dunk Tank, blacksmith shop demonstrations, wagon rides, a basket-toss and all kinds of games, live music in the old fire hall, a silent auction and a car club exhibit among the attractions. There were also all sorts of tasty treats and food vendors. Funds raised during the day supported the museum.

Leslie said about 20 volunteers helped to make the event possible so she is grateful for all their efforts.

Battleford Mayor Ames Leslie was among those who took a dip in the Dunk Tank.

Town CAO Ash Alam as well as councillors Alexis Christensen and Kevin Russell, along with City of North Battleford Mayor David Gillan were also scheduled to take part.

Leslie looked invigorated after going for a dunk in the early afternoon.

“It was cold,” he said. “But it was fun. It’s the second annual Family Fun Day here at the museum. The Dunk Tank is always a good draw. It’s a great way to raise some funds here for the Fred Light Museum.”
