The 2022 Tony Cote First Nations Summer Games wrapped up in Saskatoon and on the Whitecap Dakota First Nation this past weekend where Saskatchewan First Nation youth from across the province competed in various athletic events like track and field, softball, archery, beach volleyball, golf, kayaking, and soccer.
This was the first time that the games have been held since 2019 when they were hosted by Flying Dust Cree Nation, just outside Meadow Lake.
Three teams finished tied for first while fourth and fifth were not too far behind. File Hills Qu’Appelle Tribal Council, Team Woodland (Woodland First Nations of Lac La Ronge Indian Band, Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation, and Montreal Lake Cree Nation), and Battlefords Agency Tribal Council all finished with 53.50 points while Saskatoon Tribal Council came in a close fourth with 49.00 and Prince Albert Grand Council finished in fifth with 47.50.
As for medals, Battlefords Agency Tribal Council finished with the most with 49 (14G, 19S, 16B), while Team Woodland had 44 (18G, 9S, 17B), and Meadow Lake Tribal Council had the third most with 27 (6G, 9S, 12B).
