CPC candidate stopping in Lloydminster

Jul 27, 2022 | 5:00 AM

While election time for the Conservative Party leadership race in more than a month away, candidates are already campaigning across Canada.

MP Leslyn Lewis, for Haldimand–Northfolk in Ontario, has multiple stops scheduled in Saskatchewan this week, including Friday evening in Lloydminster. Her second time campaigning for the leadership of the federal Conservatives, Lewis will be at the Lloydminster Agricultural Exhibition Association at 7:00 p.m. This follows stops in Regina and Saskatoon on Thursday.

The Ontario MP has been vocal on issues facing farmers, such as the government’s proposed tax increases on nitrogen in fertilizer and concerns over possible food shortages. Lewis has also been critical on media coverage that she feels perpetuates racial stereotypes about the party.

Prior to this leadership race, Lewis made headlines last year for opposing COVID-19 vaccine mandates for MP’s as well as questioning COVID-19 vaccines for children. She’s joined by four other conservative candidates, including Scott Atchison of Parry Sound, former Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for York Centre in Ontario, Roman Baber, and front runners, Jean Charest and Pierre Poilievre.
