Two Town Throwdown a smash hit for Battlefords Disc Golf

Jul 19, 2022 | 5:03 PM

Disc golfers from across Saskatchewan gathered in the Battlefords over the weekend for the second annual Two Town Throwdown, hosted by the Battlefords Disc Golf Club.

Taking place over two days, the tournament featured three rounds, with the first at the Centennial Park course in North Battleford behind the Access Communications Centre, and the next two at the new Battleford course at the Flats.

Executive director with the local disc golf club, Kennedy Schmidt, said it was great to see the event continue to build on the momentum of its first year, last summer.

“We saw even more people this year, and with the events that we have in Saskatchewan this year, it’s unbelievable how big they’re getting and how much they’re filling up,” she said. “We had 43 players from all different areas of Saskatchewan, from Regina, North Battleford, Maidstone, [and] Saskatoon… some new faces and some from the year before.”

Prizes were given out for closest to the pin and longest putt on each of the 36 holes.

Schmidt said the event wouldn’t have been possible without the support of a number of local area businesses.

“Last year was great, and this year we saw even more support from the community,” she said. “Discovery Co-op joined in so we had a nice little supper for all the disc golfers Saturday night thanks to them, and then had some hole sponsors that joined in to help out too. It was amazing to see the amount of community support we got for this event this year.”

The next big event for the Battlefords Disc Golf Club will be the Gold Eagle Open, September 9-10 at Jackfish Lake. For more information on this and other events, visit the club’s Facebook page.
