RCMP Report: Assault victim treated in Saskatoon, suspect identified

Jul 14, 2022 | 3:00 PM

A North Battleford man was hospitalized Monday evening after being assaulted with a hammer.

Police were called to a residence on the 2000 block of 99th Street, where they found a male in 40s suffering from multiple injuries. Sgt. Neil Tremblay said the victim is being treated in Saskatoon.

“He had significant bruising and injuries over a good portion of his body…But we don’t know the full extent of injuries.”

Tremblay added that the man told responders he was assaulted several times over the previous few days with a hammer. He also reportedly identified a suspect, whom he knew prior to the assault.

“We’re waiting for a formal statement and we haven’t been able to locate the suspect,” Tremblay said. “Why it wasn’t reported earlier is something we hope to figure out as we get more details.”

The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.

Additional assault cases

Of the 24 assault investigations from the previous week, Battlefords RCMP also arrested a 26-year-old male for an incident on July 6.

That morning, a woman was transported to hospital in North Battleford after reporting being kicked. She had bruising on her arms and legs.

The suspect was released from custody and is scheduled for court on Aug. 4.

On July 7, members arrested another man, who now faces multiple offences. Police went to a residence south of Battleford at 8:00 p.m., where a man was reportedly wielding a bat. Upon arrival, no weapons were found, but the suspect, 25-year-old Trentin Favel, was intoxicated and causing a disturbance.

According to Tremblay, he became angry that police responded to a complaint of him yelling and started yelling and causing a disturbance again. Favel then reportedly threatened the members on scene and was subsequently arrested. He was held in custody and appeared in court on July 8 for resisting arrest, two counts of breach of probation and five counts of uttering threats.

Other cases include a pair of 911 calls. The first was from a residence on the Saulteaux First Nation where a 35-year-old male was arrested on scene without incident on July 8.

The other, from a residence on Sweet Grass First Nation, led to the arrest of a 30-year-old male after a woman in her 20s was located by members with injuries consistent with an assault.

Teen remains missing

Tremblay said the detachment is still looking for Shayden Swiftwolfe, noting they’ve had some tips on social media.

“There’s been some activity on there, presumably from him and we believe he’s in North Battleford, but we haven’t been able to locate him,” he said.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts, or information on any other incident, can contact the Battlefords RCMP detachment or Crime Stoppers.
