North American Chuckwagon Championships kick off in Lloydminster

Jul 8, 2022 | 3:55 PM

The North American Chuckwagon Championships (NACC) will kick off Friday night at the Lloydminster Exhibition grounds and run until the 16.

Featuring a number of the top drivers and outriders from the Canadian Professional Chuckwagon Association (CPCA) and World Professional Chuckwagon Association (WPCA), the nine-day show will feature a $100,000 Dash and an aggregate truck winner at the conclusion of the week’s racing action.

Meadow Lake’s Logan Gorst won the inaugural NACC event last year and said he’s looking forward to getting back out there to compete in Lloydminster again, against a number of the best in the sport.

“There’s some really good outfits here,” Gorst said. “There’s a few guys that turned down the Calgary Stampede and are coming to this show, including Jamie Laboucane, Luke Tournier, and my brother Dustin Gorst, adding with Ray Croteau Jr., who’s leading the WPCA in the other circuit over there, so really we’ve got some good competition over here and it’s exciting.”

Gorst leads the CPCA aggregate at the unofficial midway mark of the Canadian Chucks season with 549 points, just ahead of Laboucane (546.5) and Tournier (539), heading into the brief circuit pause for the NACC.

He said it would mean a lot to win at the North American Championship for a second straight year.

After all, when the Calgary Stampede pulled their chuckwagon racing event last year, it was the Lloyd Exhibition Society that welcomed him and a number of other riders in to compete, marking the start of the NACC event, which Gorst said means something.

“When the Calgary Stampede cancelled on us [last year], The Lloyd Ex let a few of us in here to put on a good show, so I’m sticking with them this year for just that reason,” Gorst said. “They put a heck of a show on last year, and hopefully we can put on a good show for them.”

Friday’s chuck action will begin at 6:30 p.m.
