Luke Tournier wins Onion Lake CPCA show

The Canadian Professional Chuckwagon Association (CPCA) standings were upended again over the weekend in Onion Lake Cree Nation.

Luke Tournier of Duck Lake, SK was the aggregate winner from the first four days, while Dallas Dyck won Sunday’s Dash for Cash. Dyck finished third in the aggregate for his best weekend of the year so far, just behind Preston Faithful, while Meadow Lake’s Logan Gorst was sixth.

Tournier, who placed 10th in his CPCA return last year, is the fourth driver to pick up a win this season. Preston Faithful also had a good showing after winning in Meadow Lake and former champion Devin Mitsuing got into the top eight with a seventh place finish.

Thanks to the win, Tournier has vaulted into third place, 7.5 points behind Jamie Laboucane and 10 points behind the defending champ Gorst. Todd Baptiste, who had a penalty filled first day in Onion Lake, is now sitting fifth, but is only 14 points back of Tournier. Four more drivers are within 90 points of first, with a big halfway point of the season coming next week.

Lloydminster will host the second annual North American Chuckwagon Championship at Halstead Downs from July 8-16. The event was installed last year as an alternative for drivers to the Calgary Stampede. More information on the event is available online.
