Meota concert fundraiser to benefit BUH Foundation capital campaign

Those who enjoy an evening of music while supporting a good cause will want to take in this upcoming show in Meota.

After a two-year hiatus, Meota Music Productions will be back with its fifth annual concert fundraiser for the Battlefords Union Hospital (BUH) Foundation.

The show will be offered on two nights – Saturday, July 30 and Sunday, July 31, starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Meota Communiplex.

All proceeds benefit the BUH Foundation’s “Every Minute Matters” ER capital campaign.

“The pandemic taught us all many lessons, one of which is that we are all in this together,” said Leanne Ducommun, executive director for BUH Foundation. “We are grateful to Meota Music Productions for their continued support and passion in bringing hope back through the gift of music. Not only are these concerts bringing people together to celebrate, it is truly sustaining the work we do to support the priority needs for our healthcare professionals by investing in major equipment for the Battlefords Union Hospital.”

Meota Music Productions’s Charles and Anne Baillargeon are planning the musical entertainment for the event.

Charles mentioned in the past they would have a concert in Meota and later in the year one in Battleford. But they decided it would be easier for logistics to just have two concerts back-to-back this time.

The concert will feature a selection of songs that inspire hope for the future, showcasing the music from the ’60s all the way up to the ’90s, by such popular artists as Bette Midler, Neil Diamond, Celine Dion and Willie Nelson to name a few.

“Most people will know all of the songs,” Baillargeon said.

The singers in the concert will be accompanied by a variety of musicians that bring costumes and set designs to highlight the eras.

“We’re looking forward to it,” Baillargeon said. “It’s going to be entertaining and it will be fun. There will be singing, dancing, some fiddle music and a variety of other [offerings] as well.”

He mentioned some of the participants in the concert will be coming from as far as Calgary to take part.

Baillargeon added that all the performers are doing the show entirely on a volunteer basis.

Organizers say both concert dates are expected to sell out early so people are encouraged to purchase their tickets in advance.
