Two members of the Battle River Archers club are heading to Italy to compete at the 2022 World Archery 3D Championships, September 5-11 in Terni, Italy.

North Battleford’s Jovica “Jay” Djukic will compete in the Men’s Barebow category, while Edam’s Blair St. Amant will compete in the Men’s Compound, as two of just three from Saskatchewan to make the national team.

Djukic, who moved to the Battlefords from Serbia in 2006, is in his fourth year with the local archery club. He said he’s looking forward to the opportunity ahead to compete on the world stage.

“I’m really excited to represent the country, Saskatchewan and here in the Battlefords and be selected for the national team,” Djukic said. “It was exciting at the tryouts to meet all the competitors and everyone was really gelling together and getting along well and getting to know each other, so that should only help us.”

Djukic is coming off a national gold medal performance at the 2022 3D Indoor Championships in late April in Lac la Biche, AB.

St. Amant, who is now in his third year with the local archery club, will be making his debut in international competition. He said the travel experience is one he and his wife Sarah, who also competes with the Battle River club, are especially looking forward to.

“We were always going to go to Italy one day and we’d both been competing pretty hard shooting lots and practicing lots, and that’s why we signed up [for qualifiers],” St. Amant said. “It’s in Italy and we thought it would be a great excuse to go, and it’s quite an opportunity to represent Canada as well.”

Prior to heading off for the World Archery Championships, the pair attend the 2022 Sask Outdoor Provincial 3D Championship in Fort Qu’Appelle July 9-10, with the chance to compete at the 2022 Canadian Outdoor Archery Championships in Prince Edward Island on the July 15 weekend as well.

Djukic and St. Amant will hold a special “Fun Shoot Fundraiser” on July 23, to help raise money for their trip to Italy to compete. The fundraiser takes place at the Battle River Archers Club in Battleford and will be open to all ages and archery experience levels with a canteen available.

More information on the Fun Shoot Fundraiser will be available on the Battle River Archers Facebook page, and Website.
