A 45-year-old North Battleford man facing a charge of second-degree murder in the death of his mother made his first appearance at North Battleford provincial court Friday.

Wearing a black T-shirt, Walter Geering, who is in custody, appeared uncomfortable as he stood in the prisoner’s box.

He requested to speak to the Legal Aid lawyer, Cameron Schmunk, who was present in court.

Judge Murray Pelletier ordered the accused to have no direct contact with Walter Geering Senior.

The accused is scheduled to return to court on July 7.

According to the RCMP, police responded after receiving a report on June 22 of an injured individual at a home on 93 Street in North Battleford. Officers and paramedics found a woman, who was declared deceased.

She has since been identified as 72-year-old Beatrice Geering from North Battleford. Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crime Unit confirmed the victim is the mother of the accused.
