RCMP investigate mass vehicle theft in Rosetown

Jun 23, 2022 | 5:00 AM

Saskatchewan RCMP arrested multiple suspects on Tuesday after several vehicles were stolen in Rosetown.

The local detachment got a call that morning regarding a group of suspicious vehicles travelling close together on a local grid road at a high rate of speed, followed by another report of a break and enter at a business. Investigation determined six brand new vehicles were stolen within the previous 90 minutes. A van, reported as stolen from Three Hills, AB, was located abandoned at the dealership.

Officers immediately began working to locate the vehicles, finding two abandoned in the Rosetown RCMP Detachment area. It was determined that the outstanding vehicles travelled northwest, sometimes at a high rate of speed, and that a Ford F350 stolen in Rosetown two days earlier was travelling with them.

One vehicle was found abandoned near Luseland, SK, then, with the assistance of Luseland Police Service, a second vehicle was located and stopped nearby. Two occupants fled on foot, but were located and arrested shortly after. Members found and seized two illegally-modified firearms, ammunition and a box of vehicle keys.

RCMP from Kindersley, Kerrobert, Biggar, Maidstone, Cut Knife and the Battlefords also assisted in the investigation, along with the Roving Traffic Unit, Alberta RCMP’s Provost and Red Deer detachments. Investigating officers determined some of the outstanding vehicles may be in Alberta, as one was later recovered in Red Deer.

As a result of this investigation, 36-year-old Lee Falsetta and 34-year-old Samantha Riggins of Red Deer are each charged with breaking, entering and committing. They appeared in Kindersley Provincial Court on Wednesday.

In a media release, Sgt. Jason Waldner of Rosetown RCMP thanked the public for reporting the suspicious vehicles in the area.

“This was an investigation that stretched across Saskatchewan and Alberta – there was excellent collaboration between of all of the police officers that assisted in this dynamic and multi-jurisdictional investigation,” he said.

As the case is ongoing, RCMP in both provinces are trying to locate the two outstanding vehicles, a black 2022 Jeep Wrangler last seen with no license plate and a grey 2019 Ford 350 with a Saskatchewan license plate of 287-LLV.

Police are advising the public not to approach them and to instead contact do not approach them and to instead contact your local detachment via 310-RCMP or through Crime Stoppers.
