Sask Baseball HOF announce induction class of 2022

Jun 14, 2022 | 4:15 PM

Like a full-count pitch with the bases loaded, the excitement is mounting for the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame’s (HOF) 37th Annual Induction Ceremony this summer in Battleford.

Taking place at the Alex Dillabough Centre on Aug. 20, the ceremony will commemorate the meaningful contributions to the game of 13 individuals, two teams and one family who will make up the Class of 2022.

Enshrined in the Individual Category will be Roger Blaquiere (Edam), Blair Bosch (Medicine Hat, Alta.), Kelvin Colliar (North Battleford), Myles Dezotell (Regina) Clayton Ermel (Lloydminster), Mary Anne Gaetz (Unity), Ron Knaus (Regina), Harry Lamberty (Nipawin), Mitch MacDonald (Regina), Jack Scott (Fairmont Hot Springs, B.C.), Elmer Torgerson (Eyebrow), Brooks Washenfelder (Yorkton), and Ernie Weimer (Fox Valley).

Inducted in the Team Category will be the Indian Head Rockets and Marquis Wheat Kings, with the Leo MacDonald Family from Regina inducted in the Family Category.

This year’s event will feature the return of a number of festivities that have traditionally accompanied the induction banquet for the first time since the pandemic. Events such as tours of the Hall of Fame and Museum midday from 11-2 p.m., and a special luncheon at the nearby Legion Hall from 11:30-1:30 p.m.

President and CEO with the Sask. Baseball HOF, Jane Shury said they’re looking forward to the return of these events that provide another valuable piece to the weekend.

“It gives everyone more time to socialize and reminisce,” Shury said. “A lot of the day is just that, and there are wonderful stories and memories that are shared. Some of these ball players have not seen each other for many years, and the main thing for them is meeting their fellow ball players and sharing their wonderful stories about baseball in Saskatchewan.”
