SJHL Draft Day begins

Jun 10, 2022 | 10:10 AM

It is draft day in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.

Some of tomorrow’s top junior hockey talent will begin their journey today in the league’s first Bantam Draft since 2020, featuring a couple of unique wrinkles this year.

Held remotely, with teams each present to make their selections from their home communities, the event will also feature multiple age groups over its six rounds. The first four rounds will consist of players born in 2006, followed by an additional two rounds of 2007-born players.

Head coach and general manager of the Battlefords North Stars, Brayden Klimosko said the team is looking forward to the day, and a chance to add to their pipeline of young talent.

“It’s pretty exciting of course, we have quite a few picks and it’s been a while since we’ve done a draft, so it’s exciting for us and for the kids to be taken here today,” Klimosko said.
