RCMP Part 2: Multiple assaults, confrontational arrests

Jun 10, 2022 | 12:00 PM

Battlefords RCMP have issued a warrant for the arrest of Jesse Katcheech.

The 29-year-old faces charges of aggravated assault and two counts of failing to comply with a release order after an incident on Saulteaux First Nation from June 1.

Police and ambulance were called to a residence where a woman in her early 30s was then taken to hospital. She had sustained significant facial and head injuries during an altercation with the accused, which reportedly did not involve weapons.

“It was suspected her nose was broken on the day of the incident and there may be additional fractures,” Sgt. Neil Tremblay. “I think she’s out now, we’re just waiting on hospital records.”

Members responded to a 911 call the following day, detailing an assault on a woman at a residence on the Moosomin First Nation. A woman in her 40s reported being assaulted at her residence by the suspect, a 37-year-old woman.

Officers later learned that shortly before the incident, a man in his 40s had also previously been assaulted by the same suspect a short time prior. The accused was later arrested and charged with two counts of assault, breaking and entering and uttering threats. She is scheduled to make her first court appearance on July 7.

Resisting arrest

On Wednesday, a 25-year-old Prince Albert man became violent with officers as he was taken into custody for violating conditions based out of charges in Alberta. This came after police investigated reports of a suspicious male on the 1300 block of 100th Street on Wednesday morning.

He appears in court on July 18 for assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.

A similar incident occurred shortly after midnight on Tuesday, where someone intoxicated was refusing to get out of a vehicle. After police repeated the request once on scene, the accused, a 27-year-old woman, became violent and assaulted the members.

“She decided to fight and threaten the officers’ lives, which is where the charges stem from,” Tremblay said.

She was arrested and later released from custody to appear in court later this summer on two counts of assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, uttering threats and mischief to property.

Around an hour before that, officers dealt with another contentious arrest on the 1800 block of 99th Street, where a suspicious male was reportedly going through people’s yards. The accused, a 24-year-old man, is said to have struck one of the members during his arrest and spat at a second member. He faces two counts of assaulting a police officer and was released for a court date later this summer.

Other RCMP files from the past week included four vehicle thefts, 15 mental health investigations, six traffic collisions, 71 various traffic charges and two individuals charged with impaired driving.

Anyone with information on any incident is urged to call the Battlefords RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
