Wayne Pruden Memorial Golf Tournament sees strong turnout for 26th year

The Battlefords Union Hospital Foundation held their 26th annual Wayne Pruden Memorial Golf Tournament Tuesday in North Battleford.

Taking place at North Battleford Golf and Country Club, executive director Leanne Ducommun said they couldn’t have been more pleased with the community support again this year.

“We had an exceptional turnout. It was a great day, and there were a lot of smiling faces, so right from start to finish we were really happy with the turnout and the expectations of the day,” she said.

This marked the first year since pre-pandemic days that the tournament was able to be held on its traditional spring date of June 7. After being held virtually in 2020, last year’s event was moved to the fall, once gathering restrictions were lifted.

Ducommun said it was nice to be able to move the tournament back to the spring season for the tradition that comes with it.

“We did have a lot of compliments and people really happy we were able to go back to the traditions of the way things were and still enjoy the day of fellowship and fun,” she said. “You could tell that a lot of people support this tournament every year, and it’s nice to see people come out year after year.”

Each year there is a Spirit of Giving Award given out in honor of Wayne Pruden’s generosity, volunteerism, and love for community, with Deb McNabb being named this year’s recipient.

In addition, for the fifth consecutive year, “Too Much Muscle” was awarded best-dressed team for their Wayne Pruden-inspired look (pictured in lead image, bottom picture).

This year’s event raised funds for a new ECG machine to be used for laboratory services at the BUH.

Next year’s tournament will be held June 5, 2023.
