Town gets ready to open new Seniors’ Fitness Park

Jun 2, 2022 | 5:00 AM

Older adults in the area will want to put on their running shoes to try out the exercise equipment at the new outdoor activity centre in Battleford.

The Seniors’ Fitness Park contains several stations where people can stretch, strengthen their muscles and work on their fitness routine at the space located outside the Alex Dillabough Centre.

The site was just finished this week, as crews installed a new rubberized material on the ground space to create a soft surface for those using the equipment stations.

“A little bit later this summer we will be running a walking path to it,” Town of Battleford Parks and Recreation manager Jordan Schechtel said. “Then, also planting some trees.”

A couple of benches will also be included for the site to add to the amenities.

“It’s getting closer to being done,” Schechtel said.

He noted people can expect to see five stations and three activity centres within the space. For each activity centre there will be multiple activities people can do that are listed on each component.

The Battleford Community Spirit Group and the Town’s Parks and Recreation Department are planning a Fun Night for families taking place this Thursday, June 2 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. outside the Alex Dillabough Centre.

As part of the event, an expert will demonstrate how the Seniors’ Fitness Park equipment can be used so people will find out how they can incorporate the exercise centre as part of their regular workout goals.

“There will be somebody there going through the different exercises you can do on the equipment,” Schechtel said. “Definitely, people should come out and check it out.”

The town received lots of good feedback from residents about having the Seniors’ Fitness Park here in the area. Now that it will be finished this week it should bring more people to the Battlefords to try out the equipment.

“I think overall it’s positive,” Schechtel said. “It’s good for the community.”
