Town bringing back annual parade this summer

After taking two year’s off due to the pandemic restrictions, the Town of Battleford’s annual parade will be back on again this summer.

The town is scheduling the event to take place Friday, August 12 at 7 p.m.

Parks and Recreation manager Jordan Schechtel said it will be exciting to have the parade return to bring people out.

“We will start taking registrations now for sure,” he said. “With [the parade] not being held for two years, we want to let as many people know as possible.”

People can enter their floats, bands, choirs, decorated cars and trucks, horses, tractors, and just about anything they wish to liven up the event.

Schechtel said he hopes for a good turnout of entries for the parade and encourages everyone to sign up to show their support.

He added the town’s annual parade is always a popular event for families in the community.

“People enjoy it. They like to come out to see the floats,” Schechtel said. “It will be good to have it back.”

The town’s Parks and Recreation Committee decided not to have fireworks after the parade this time because there are already other events planned in the area this summer that feature fireworks, such as the National Indigenous Peoples Day celebration being held in Battleford on Thursday, June 16 and the City of North Battleford’s Canada Day festivities taking place July 1.
