Chamber Golf Challenge ‘a hit’ in community

May 27, 2022 | 4:14 PM

Just under 140 golfers from the business community took to the greens at North Battleford Golf and Country Club Friday, for the eighth annual Chamber Business Golf Challenge.

Registration and kickoff breakfast for the event began at 9:30 a.m., with shotgun start at 10 a.m. to open the day on the links.

Chief operating officer with the chamber, Linda Machniak, said she couldn’t be happier with the turnout again this year.

“We’ve got a great turnout and it’s going really well,” Machniak said of the day. “We had great support from our members for our ‘host a hole’ people so they’re completely full, and we’re actually pretty close to a sellout for our players, so that’s been awesome to see and we really appreciate the support.”

Lunch was provided as well at the clubhouse midday, with various games and challenges spread throughout the 18-holes, including the ‘Fastest Hole in Golf.’

Back by popular demand, the relay challenge was featured on the 18th hole where teams work together, taking turns hitting a shared ball towards the hole in an attempt to drain it in the shortest amount of time.

Mark Richardson was among the golfers taking part in the day, along with his teammates from Nutec Embroidery. Veterans of the annual chamber golf tournament, he said it’s an event they look forward to each year.

“We just love this tournament and thanks to Linda and [project coordinator] Bowen [Yang], and [admin and event coordinator] Doris [Jobin-Robert] with the chamber, as they do an awesome job of putting this on,” Richardson said. “We know it’s a lot of work, so we really appreciate them giving everyone in the business community a chance to kind of get together and enjoy each other’s company.”

When asked how the golf game is progressing, Richardson couldn’t help but smile and shake his head.

“It’s still early,” he said with a laugh. “We’re still shaking some of the rust off, but we’re a team built for scrambles, that’s for sure.”

Lisa Kissick, said she and her team were enjoying the day as a chance to get outdoors and have some fun in the community.

“It’s been super fun and we’re really having a good time,” she said. “We may not be the most skilled golfers, but the chamber tournament is always the best tournament, and the weather’s holding up, so for a couple of ladies having a good Friday, we can’t complain at all.”
