May 11, 2022 | 5:28 PM

The Battlefords Orcas Swim Club took like a fish (or mammal) to water at their swim meet over the weekend in Saskatoon.

Over 350 swimmers from Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Manitoba took part in the meet at the Shaw Centre, including six from the local Battlefords club, who combined for three first place finishes, two seconds, and two thirds.

Senior, Madison Higgs took first place in the 50-metre freestyle, 100-metre freestyle and 200-metre backstroke, along with a second place in the 200-metre freestyle, and third in the 100-metre backstroke.

Matthew Bell won second place in the 200-metre individual medley, and Aaron Cherney won third in the 200-metre breast stroke.

Orcas’ coach, Matthew Parker said he was proud of the way the team was able to perform, competing in a total of 35 races, while establishing 21 personal-bests between them.

“They’ve been doing phenomenal work this season in their training and the club has been growing, so we’re looking forward to going to more competitions and showing everyone what we can achieve,” Parker said.

The Orcas will return to competitive action next month in Moose Jaw, with the winter swim season to conclude at the end of June.
