Town offers contest again to win a compost bin

Apr 25, 2022 | 4:22 PM

Anyone residing in Battleford who doesn’t already own a compost bin could have a chance to win one.

Similar to last year, the Town of Battleford is holding a contest to encourage more people to participate in composting and sign up for compost-bin pickup. The contest promotion runs until July 20.

Those who signed up for compost-bin pickup for the current year as of April 19, 2022, were automatically entered into the draw to have the cost of their compost bin refunded. The draw for the refund cost of one compost bin, which is $152.12, will be done after the contest closes.

Each eligible new customer who purchases their first compost bin during the contest period will be automatically entered into the contest.

The town sold 66 compost bins last year.

During council’s recent meeting, Coun. Kevin Russell said he hopes the contest is successful in spurring people to buy their first bin this year.

“It’s a great idea,” he said. “It worked last year. Hopefully it will work again.”

Mayor Ames Leslie appreciated the idea for the promotion as well.

“It adds a little bit of fun in our community,” he said. “It’s better than mandating everybody to have one… It incentivizes it as making the right choice.”

Leslie commended Coun. Judy Pruden for leading the promotion.

The town started its compost bin pick up again for the season on April 25.
