A number of Town of Battleford staff were honoured with awards for their long service at the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA) Convention on Tuesday.

The following individuals were recognized with Meritorious Service Awards for having contributed more than 20 years with the municipality: Larry Gabruch, the town’s fire chief, served 41 years; Bernadette Leslie, the Fred Light Museum manager, 42 years; Eric Bilanski, the town’s public works manager, has served 31 years; Les Herle, public works grader operator, served 28 years; and Noreen Hoffart, the town’s executive assistant, contributed 32 years to the town.

They were to be recognized at a special banquet in the evening.

Town CAO Ash Alam, who nominated the individuals, said it is quite an accomplishment to have so many staff dedicate so many years of service to the town.

“That’s a very good achievement for the town,” he said. “The town benefits from their years of experience, and many years to go.”

Alam especially commended Bernadette Leslie who “gave her entire life for the museum,” Larry Gabruch for his great dedication to the fire department over the years, and the other long-serving staff.

“It’s pretty impressive, one-hundred per cent,” Alam said.
