Application for third cannabis retail store approved in Meadow Lake
The City of Meadow Lake has approved an application from Canadian Greens to allow another cannabis retail store on Ninth Street West.
The motion to approve a discretionary use application for a store at 812 Ninth St. West was voted through during Monday evening’s city council meeting, allowing for the sale of a variety of cannabis products, from plant seeds to accessories. Mayor Merlin Seymour told meadowlakeNOW that the proper notifications were completed on time and there have been no responses in regards to a public hearing.
“We did have the opportunity for people to come for it and no one spoke for or against the application,” he said. “It met all the requirements of the building codes, zoning bylaws, etc.”
Seymour noted that while the city was originally allotted to have one store, legislation changed to allow more opportunities to have more businesses with cannabis retail sales. Currently, there’s only one business selling cannabis in operation, but council had previously approved the construction of a new store at 114 Ninth St. West, making Canadian Greens the third location in the community.
