Canadian Taxpayers Federation debt clock stops in Battlefords

Mar 28, 2022 | 12:07 PM

Representatives from the Canadian Taxpayers Federation were in the Battlefords recently as part of the national debt clock tour.

The citizens advocacy group committed to lowering taxes and increasing government accountability is in the process of taking their active debt clock display mounted to their vehicle across the country, with the aim to be in Ottawa before the national budget is released, anticipated for early April.

“We’re taking [the debt clock] all across Canada, to sound the alarm over the runaway deficits and debt in Ottawa,” federal director Franco Terrazzano told battlefordsNOW.

He noted the federal government is more than $1 trillion dollars in debt.

“Our debt clock shows the debt increasing in real time. It’s going up by $4,500 every single second,” Terrazzano said. “That means that each Canadian is on the hook for more than $30,000 in federal government debt… We’re calling on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to stop this deep dive into debt.”

He said the Canadian Taxpayers Federation wants to see the government present a plan to balance the federal budget, and “stop the clock.”
