RCMP Report Pt. 2: Stabbings, assaults, elderly woman robbed

Mar 11, 2022 | 8:00 AM

Battlefords RCMP arrested two people in two separate stabbing incidents last week.

At residence west of Battleford on March 3, a man was found suffering from a stab wound to the torso and had to be transported to hospital for treatment. A 19 year old male was arrested on scene without incident and charged with aggravated assault. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 17 and the victim is expected to make a full recovery.

The other stabbing incident left a man with multiple wounds at a residence on Sweetgrass First Nation March 5. The victim was transported to hospital for serious injuries but is also expected to make a full recovery.

Ashley Pooyak-Seymour, the 29 year-old suspect, was known to the victim and was no longer on scene when police arrived. She was located later that day and arrested without incident. Pooyak-Seymour faces one count of aggravated assault and appeared in court on Monday.

Attempted implication

Police arrested 21 year-old Clark Whitecalf on multiple charges, after he reportedly attempted to frame his ex-girlfriend for a crime.

A man had called police through 911 just before midnight on Monday, reporting child negligence and alleging his ex was intoxicated while watching her children in North Battleford. Members arrived at the residence and learned the man had gone there, assaulted his ex and poured alcohol on her in an effort to try and get her in trouble. He was no longer there when police arrived, but was later arrested by Turtleford RCMP.

Sgt. Neil Tremblay said the victim will make a full recovery, adding that this was an unusual situation.

“She was obviously sober, there was no issue and then the story came out that he actually assaulted her, poured alcohol on her and tried to get her in trouble,” he said.

Whitecalf is charged with assault with a weapon, public mischief for making a false report, and breach of Probation. He is making his first appearance in North Battleford Provincial Court on March 9.

Taken advantage of

Police are looking to identify suspects from an incident from Sunday morning, where two suspects stole an elderly woman’s purse.

The pair (suspected to be male) reportedly came up to a residence on the 200 block of 31st St. in Battleford, pushed the home owner into a room and left with the purse. Fortunately, the victim was not injured, though distressed by the incident

Both suspects were wearing black coats, one had black snow pants and the other wore blue snow pants. Tremblay said they are looking for anyone in that area that may have captured images of them to contact the detachment.

“She was able to give us the clothing descriptions and we’ve been canvassing the area for surveillance footage,” he said. “All businesses in the area and even door or bell cameras.”

“So, if people are noticing on their footage that people of a similar description walked by their residence, let us know.”

Tremblay said it’s unknown at this time if the two suspects match the description of a pair that committed robberies on Monday. Police did locate the suspect’s vehicle, a two-tonne pickup, later in the week. The matter remains under investigation.

Another assault call on Monday came from a business on the Highway 16 Bypass, where a 19 year-old woman had a hand injury and her vehicle was stolen.

Investigation found she was involved in an argument with two other people in her vehicle, which became physical. After a brief struggle with a male passenger, the victim ended up falling onto the ground and the man allegedly stole the victim’s car and drove over her hand as he left. A 21 year old suspect has been identified and charges are currently pending for theft, assault and dangerous driving.

Other calls

The 16 year-old youth arrested on Tuesday for spraying bear mace at North Battleford Comprehensive High School has been charged with carrying a concealed weapon. According to RCMP, he emptied the can into a urinal, resulting in classrooms remain shut and secured for an hour as caretakers helped circulate fresh air. No one was harmed and the youth has since been released, pending a future court date.

Other calls for services include 11 missing persons reports (none active), 13 Mental Health investigations, 13 break and enter investigations, 12 vehicle theft reports, 20 traffic collisions, 17 various traffic charges and four individuals charged with impaired driving.

Anyone with information on any incident is urged to call Battlefords RCMP, 310-RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
