Four arrests made after drugs and weapons found at Witchekan Lake

Four men have been arrested after Spiritwood RCMP officers located two suspicious vehicles outside a residence on Witchekan Lake First Nation on March 6.

A search warrant was executed at the residence and as a result officers located and seized:

  • Seven firearms;
  • Three prohibited weapons;
  • Approximately 32.5 grams of suspected crack cocaine;
  • Approximately 23.5 grams of suspected methamphetamine;
  • Approximately 105 grams of an unknown substance currently under investigation;
  • Drug trafficking paraphernalia;
  • A sum of cash.

Dennis Marcia, 54, of Witchekan Lake First Nation is charged with numerous charges including:

  • one count, possession (crack cocaine);
  • one count, unsafe storage of firearm;
  • three counts, possession of weapon for dangerous purpose;
  • one count, carry concealed weapon;
  • one count, possess firearm while knowing possession not authorized;
  • one count, possess prohibited weapon in vehicle;
  • one count, possess prohibited weapon with readily available ammunition;
  • one count, possession of a prohibited weapon;
  • six counts, possession of a weapon, firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order;
  • five counts, fail to comply with probation order.

Shane Witchekan, 32, of Witchekan Lake First Nation is charged with:

  • one count, possession (crack cocaine);
  • one count, unsafe storage of firearm;
  • three counts, possession of weapon for dangerous purpose;
  • one count, carry concealed weapon;
  • one count, possess firearm while knowing possession not authorized;
  • one count, possess prohibited weapon in vehicle;
  • one count, possess prohibited weapon with readily available ammunition;
  • one count, possession of a prohibited weapon;
  • six counts, possession of a weapon, firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order.

Melvin Starblanket, 36, of Witchekan Lake First Nation is charged with:

  • two counts, possession (crack cocaine and methamphetamine);
  • two counts, possession for the purpose of trafficking (crack cocaine and methamphetamine);
  • one count, unsafe storage of firearm;
  • two counts, possession of weapon for dangerous purpose;
  • one count, possess firearm while knowing possession not authorized;
  • one count, possess prohibited weapon in vehicle;
  • one count, possess prohibited weapon with readily available ammunition;
  • one count, possession of a prohibited weapon;
  • three counts, possession of a weapon, firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order.

Brendon Starblanket, 32, of Witchekan Lake First Nation is charged with:

  • two counts, possession (crack cocaine and methamphetamine);
  • two counts, possession for the purpose of trafficking (crack cocaine and methamphetamine);
  • three counts, unsafe storage of firearm;
  • one count, possess firearm while knowing possession not authorized;
  • three counts, possession of weapon for dangerous purpose;
  • five counts, fail to comply with release order;
  • one count, possession of weapon obtained by crime.

They will appear in court in Spiritwood on March 8, 2022.
