RCMP Report Pt. 1: Break-in suspects, more vehicle thefts

Mar 3, 2022 | 3:30 PM

The Battlefords RCMP are actively investigating multiple break and enters in the service area from last week.

One of the 12 calls they received was related to a break-in at a residence in Battleridge Estates at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Two suspects were driving a brown Toyota Camry with a Sask License of 764-HTA that was reported stolen that morning from 103rd Street.

Two other break-ins may be linked. A break and enter to a business on the 100 block of 25th Street in Battleford on Feb. 23 had four reportedly male suspects driving a black Chevrolet pickup. Shortly after midnight, another break-in occurred at a business on the 16 Highway Bypass and three generators were reported stolen.

Sgt. Neil Tremblay told battlefordsNOW that the incident involved a vehicle (previously reported stolen) with a similar description.

“It was after the generators were stolen where a vehicle was recovered nearby with that description,” Tremblay said. “However, I can’t say for sure [that it’s connected].”

Tremblay stressed that there’s often a connection between break and enters and stolen vehicles, two crimes that have occurred frequently in the Battlefords.

“It happened again this week, but it’s happening every week, where you find abandoned stolen vehicles near break and enter sites,” he said.

Other incidents included multiple break-ins to apartments on the 1800 block of 100th Street in Battleford reported on Feb. 26 where charges are pending against a 36-year-old male suspect.

Stolen vehicles

The detachment dealt with eight reported vehicle thefts and are actively looking for two of them. This includes a grey 2001 Chevrolet Impala (Sask License 607-MKT) reported stolen from the 1000 block of 105th Street on Feb. 25, and a white 2008 Lincoln MKX (Sask License 581-MKT) stolen from the 400 block of 34th Street in Battleford on Feb. 27.

Following this report, three more vehicles were stolen on Wednesday within the Battlefords area. This includes a black 2012 Dodge Caravan (Sask License 958-MHZ), a brown 2012 F150 Supercrew (Sask License 819-MLY) and a black 2006 GMC 1500 (Sask License 558-MJX).

More dangerous driving

Other calls for service include 19 Mental Health investigations, 10 traffic collisions, 33 various traffic charges and three individuals charged with impaired driving. In one instance, police responded to a single vehicle rollover on Highway 4 near Cochin on Feb. 26. The three occupants of the vehicle appeared uninjured but were arguing and fighting with each other.

The 21-year-old female driver is facing charges of impaired driving and driving over the legal limit of alcohol. She appears in court on April 4.

Anyone with information on any incident can call the Battlefords RCMP, 310-RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
