City of North Battleford votes against extending mandatory masking

Feb 22, 2022 | 7:05 PM

The City of North Battleford will not extend mandatory masking past Feb. 28, when the province is expected to lift the measure.

Following a spirited debate between members, City Council voted 5-2 against the motion from Coun. Bill Ironstand. Coun. Kent Lindgren was the other vote in favour, while Councilor’s Ross MacAngus, Kelli Hawtin, Len Taylor, Greg Lightfoot and Mayor David Gillan voted against.

Among the reasons given for voting down the motion was following the province’s direction on public health decisions, concerns over enforcement and focusing on making the City mask friendly instead.
