Feb 17, 2022 | 5:00 AM

Case files for break and enters and vehicle thefts continue for the Battlefords RCMP detachment.

Members caught a break on Feb. 11, when two suspects were identified and arrested trying to remove a washing machine from a 4-plex on the 1000 block of 104th St. Officers were able to respond quickly to a report of a theft in progress and arrest the suspects as they were just about to depart in their vehicle.

As a result, 32 year-old Wendall Albert and 50 year-old Richard Kennedy are both charged with breaking and entering and possession of break and enter tools. Both were remanded into custody.

A business break-in that occurred on Marquis Ave. shortly after midnight on Feb. 10, is still under investigation. According to the detachment, towing vehicles were stolen from a compound and later recovered.

There were nine break and enter calls for the service period, out of 457 totals for service.

Several vehicle thefts

Battlefords RCMP are investigating a robbery at a business on the 1600 block of 100th St. early Tuesday morning, where three vehicles were stolen. While one vehicle was recovered, the other two are still missing. These are a red 2016 Chevrolet Trax (Sask License 734-MKJ) and a white 2010 Ford Ranger (Sask License 209-HMG).

Police did recover a stolen SUV and arrest the male suspect connected to the theft. It was taken from the 1100 block of 102nd St. on Feb. 9. The accused, 25 year-old Phoenix Gladue, is charged with theft of a motor vehicle, but also faces other charges in connection with this incident. This includes impaired driving, refusing to provide a breath sample, driving while prohibited and two counts of breach of probation. He was remanded into custody and made his first appearance in provincial court.

Also among the 10 calls regarding vehicle thefts is a black 1998 Nissan Pathfinder (Sask License 830-JVQ) reported stolen from Railway Avenue East some time around 6:00 p.m. on Feb. 11.

Two notable incidents of assault

Among the 20 calls for assault investigations, officers were able to arrest one man wielding a tire iron without incident. The call came from the 1600 block of 104th St. shortly after midnight on Feb. 9, where 38 year-old Troy Henderson was attempting to strike another male. The victim was not struck during the altercation and was not injured.

Henderson has been charged with possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon and uttering threats. He made his first appearance in court later that day.

The RCMP have also issued an arrest warrant for 33 year-old Perry Wuttunee, in relation to an assault at a residence on Red Pheasant Cree Nation. The suspect had fled the area and no serious injuries were reported.
