RCMP Report Pt. 2: Ongoing investigations and assault arrest in Battleford area
During a vehicle check on Jan. 27, Battlefords RCMP arrested two people and seized drugs and bear mace.
Members executing the check on Battleford Road early that morning ended up pursuing the male driver on foot, while the 21-year-old female passenger was arrested without incident. The man was arrested after a brief struggle on the 500 block of 105th Street and officers located a small amount of methamphetamine, cocaine and bear mace in the vehicle.
The woman, who was released from custody, is facing a charge of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and is scheduled to appear in court on March 7. The driver, 25-year-old Rilley Bjerkness, was remanded into custody on charges of possession of cocaine for purpose of trafficking, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.
There were 18 assault investigations for the detachment amongst the 444 calls for service. Investigations are still underway into a fatal two-way collision from Sunday, an armed robbery from Monday and an incident where a car with one month old twins in it was stolen over the weekend.
