Battleford renews lease for archery club

The Town of Battleford will continue its relationship with the Battle River Archers.

The local archery club’s lease from the Town for the old curling rink is extended for another year. This matter was settled quickly by council due to the current lease ending on Monday.

Mayor Ames Leslie said the decision was an easy one and the Town was pleased to continue the relationship. He noted the archers have been good tenants and put a lot of work into improving the facility.

“They’ve invested their own dollars to upgrade the lighting and building maintenance,” Leslie said. “We appreciate them as a partner and look forward to the long term relationship.”

Some notable projects include converting range lights to LED’s and installing new decking in the shooting area. The lighting cost was split between the two parties.

Leslie said they’ve always had an agreement on working towards upgrades that the club wants.

“We get together and figure out a funding campaign and who covers costs,” he said. “Mutual benefit for both sides.”

The club pays $500 per month, $6,000 for the year, plus half the cost of all utilities.
