RCMP Report: Police identify suspect in parking lot assault

Jan 27, 2022 | 1:00 PM

Police dealt with eight assault investigations and are still looking for one of the suspects.

Several reports came in before noon on Jan. 19 that a man was assaulting a woman in a parking lot on the north side of the city. The victim didn’t have any visible injuries and was not cooperative with the investigation, however, police were able to speak to several witnesses. Both the victim and the suspect were reportedly known to each other.

Based on the information they’ve gathered, Sgt. Neil Tremblay said the detachment has identified a 53-year-old male from the area as suspect. While charges are currently pending, his name is not being released to the public at this time.

“There is some surveillance available from businesses in the area, so the investigation is still ongoing even without the cooperation of the victim,” Tremblay said. “But until a charge is laid, we won’t be identifying the male.”

“If the matter goes to warrant, we may need help identifying him. We certainly encourage people to call and provide a statement if they saw the incident.”

The detachment had eight assault investigations for the week, out of 377 calls for service, which is a solid drop from previous weeks.

Seven break and enter investigations

Two suspects were arrested on scene during a break and enter in North Battleford on Jan. 21.

Battlefords RCMP received the report of the break and enter in progress on the 1100 block of 98th Street early that morning and both suspects were then linked to a business break and enter on the 1400 block of 100th Street. This had occurred a short time prior.

Tremblay noted that substance abuse was an issue in the incident.

“The other break-in likely occurred within about an hour of the arrest.”

Twenty-six-year-old Chaystin Armstrong and 25-year-old Phoenix Gladue of North Battleford both face possession of stolen property and two counts of break and enter. The pair were remanded into custody and appeared in court on Monday.

Police also arrested a 31-year-old woman on Jan. 22 for breaking and entering at a residence on the 400 block of 32nd Street in Battleford. She was later released from custody and will make her first appearance in court on Feb. 28 with an additional charge of failing to comply with probation.

More stolen vehicles

Two arrests were also made in relation to vehicle thefts.

A 29-year-old male was arrested and charged after a report from the Cochin district early Sunday morning. The accused was located with the vehicle on 100th Street in North Battleford later that day and will appear in court Feb. 28.

Police also arrested and charged a 15-year-old youth for possession of stolen property after a Ford pickup was reported stolen from the 1300 block of 99th Street in North Battleford Tuesday morning. The vehicle was recovered later the same morning and the youth was arrested without incident.

Of the seven vehicles reported stolen over the past week two are still missing. One is a white 2008 Ford Escape (Sask License 958-LXU) reported stolen from Moosomin First Nation on Jan. 19.

While the other is a grey 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe (Sask License 239-MKV) reported stolen from St. Laurent Drive the evening of Jan. 21.

Other cases for the detachment included 14 mental health investigations, eight missing persons (one active), 22 various traffic charges, two traffic collisions and three individuals charged with impaired driving.

Anyone with information on any incident can call the Battlefords RCMP, 310-RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
