Maidstone RCMP were dispatched to the scene on Highway 16 a short time before 3:00 p.m., where initial investigation determined a pickup truck and a snow plow collided, followed by a second pickup truck colliding with the snow plow.

Of the four occupants in the second pickup truck, a 47-year-old female and a 24-year-old female, both from Beaumont, Alta., were pronounced deceased at the scene. The adult male driver of the first pickup truck was also transported to hospital with what are described as non-life-threatening injuries, while the adult male driver of the snow plow was not injured.

Highway 16 westbound was closed for the on-scene investigation, but has since re-opened.
