WDM Light Up the Village continues to Jan. 7

The Light Up the Village illumination display continues to be a popular draw at the Western Development Museum (WDM) this holiday season.

Joyce Smith, manager of WDM North Battleford, said everything is going as planned for the show, and the response from the public has been positive.

“Even with the cold weather, we still have vehicles coming through,” she told battlefordsNOW. “I think we are very close to last year. We’ve had excellent community support. People really enjoy the event.”

People are asked to stay in their vehicles during the show, and turn on their radio to hear the program. Smith said the lights on the 23-foot Christmas tree will move in time to the song that’s synced to the radio dial to add a little festive fun to the night.

Battleford Furniture is presenting the event this year as the major sponsor. A number of local companies, businesses and individuals are also helping sponsor the attraction. Altogether there are about 30 sponsors for the event.

Smith said some innovative volunteers have also created displays for the show.

“At the optometrist’s building there is a pair of glasses with eyebrows over it, and the eyebrows go up and down,” she said with a chuckle. “There is so much to see. The community has really come out and supported us — helped with the displays and with the sponsorships. It’s been excellent.”

Funds raised from the Light Up the Village event will benefit maintenance and repairs for the heritage buildings on the grounds.

Smith is encouraging everyone to come visit the show, adding that “it’s well worth it.”

Light up the Village continues until Jan. 7, 2022. The show is open from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The event is operating every day, with the exception of New Year’s Day. If there is any reason the show will not be open on a particular night, due to a storm for example, a sign will be posted at the gate and the WDM will notify the public on its Facebook Page.

Tickets to the event are $10 per vehicle, and $40 for a bus load or large group. Season passes are also available.
