Access Communications launches new internet service in the Battlefords

Dec 16, 2021 | 5:00 AM

The Battlefords are the launch site for a new internet service from Access Communications.

AccessHyperSpeed 1 Gig debuts today in North Battleford and Battleford, what Access hopes will usher in the next generation of internet speed. CEO Jim Deane said in a release Access was excited to have the Battlefords experience the service first.

“Today’s technology demands faster speeds than ever before,” he said. “Our new gigabit service will deliver an elevated experience for the different users in today’s world, whether they’re gaming, streaming, working remotely or schooling from home.”

Communications Manager Fran Moran expressed similar excitement to battlefordsNOW, stating North Battleford and Battleford are ideal locations for the launch.

“Because we were able to accomplish back end work earlier this year in the Battlefords, it paved the way for us to launch it here first,” he said.

Having Gigabit is designed to provide faster spend by improving bandwidth. Moran said AccessHyperSpeed 1 Gig delivers download speeds up to 940 mega-bits per second (Mbps), more than triple the previous speed, as well as upload speeds up to 30 Mbps. This will allow more users to be connected to the internet simultaneously, along with other benefits.

“More devices can be connected simultaneously, streaming is more reliable and paves the way for new technologies, things like 360 video, virtual reality,” Moran said. “You’re going to be able to really enjoy those things.”

Other benefits include playing games online without interference, downloading and uploading files, photos and videos faster and joining video conferences without worrying about audio/video quality.

Ahead of the launch, Moran said Access met with local members of the community and believes this new service will be well received.

“Got some great feedback on how to explain the benefits and how to best ensure the service lives up to the hype,” he said.

Moran said their goal is to make this accessible to as many communities in Saskatchewan as possible, with plans underway to expand throughout the province soon.

“I expect within the next couple months you’ll see more communities popping up.”
