City plans capital projects, community support for year ahead

The City of North Battleford has a number of capital projects it will be working on in 2022 as outlined in the new budget passed this week.

The city plans to undertake major roof replacements for the Battlefords CO-OP Aquatic Centre and the Dekker Centre. The project is budgeted for about $1.2 million.

For another initiative, the city will invest $600,000 for sidewalk replacement work.

Crews will also focus on roadway patching work at the intersection of Territorial Drive and 100th Street for a $160,000 budgeted project.

For a comprehensive project, the city plans to work on improving traffic flow along Territorial Drive between Highway 4 and the entrance to Killdeer Park.

In addition, the city will complete Phase 1 of a new sidewalk from 110th Street to Territorial Drive, budgeted for $120,000.

Also in 2022, the city’s water tower will see some improvements. The city will invest up to $200,000 to replace the decorative lights on the North Battleford Water Tower.

Also planned ahead, the city will complete the Underground Pipeline and Asphalt Replacement (UPAR) project for 102nd Street, from Railway Avenue to 16th Avenue.

Community groups/organizations see support

A number of community groups and organizations in North Battleford will receive support from the city for 2022, with a total of $1.6 million budgeted.

The following groups are earmarked for contributions:

  • Battlefords Transit System (including Handi-Bus) — $373,804;
  • The Dekker Centre (operating grant) — $227,610;
  • Animal Control / Humane Society (operating grant) — $150,000;
  • Lakeland Library Region — $361,024;
  • North Battleford Library — $153,560;
  • River Valley Board — $53,000;
  • North Battleford Golf and Country Club (NBGCC) — $75,000;
  • Destination Battlefords — $118,458;
  • Boys & Girls Clubs of The Battlefords, now known as BGC Battlefords, (capital grant and summer program grant) — $43,000;
  • BTEC capital grant — $10,000;
  • The Community Development Financial Assistance Program — $60,000.
