Battlefords RCMP lay charges in child pornography investigation

Dec 9, 2021 | 11:56 AM

Battlefords RCMP have charged a 49-year-old male with multiple offences in a child pornography case.

After the execution of a search warrant at a local residence, Jason Schimdt of North Battleford was arrested and charged with one count of possession of child pornography and one count of making sexually explicit material available to a child.

This follows a lengthy investigation that began in July when a complaint was made of inappropriate communications found on a device being used by a child. It progressed with assistance of Saskatchewan Digital Forensic Services and the Integrated Child Exploitation Unit with North Battleford’s Municipal General Investigation Section laying charges on Wednesday.

Schmidt was released from custody on a number of conditions and is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 24 in North Battleford.

As the investigation continues, Battlefords RCMP gave a reminder in a media release for parents to be aware of their children’s online presence and who they may be communicating with. Anyone who believes their child may be the victim of an online predator is encouraged to call their local RCMP detachment or police service.
