Onion Lake police seize drugs, cash during arrest

Onion Lake RCMP arrested a 38-year-old man and seized a significant amount of drugs and cash during a traffic stop on Monday.

According to RCMP, officers held up an ATV, previously reported as stolen, where the driver provided a false ID and refused to comply. Following a brief altercation, he was arrested and no serious injuries were sustained.

Officers later found and seized approximately 25 grams of cocaine divided into 25 packages (around $2,120 worth) and 180 grams of methamphetamine. They also seized 68 tablets of codeine (a prescription drug, as well as an opiate and narcotic), three cell phones and a large sum of Canadian currency.

Philip Heathen of Onion Lake, SK has been charged one count each for:

  • Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking;
  • Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking;
  • Possession of codeine for the purpose of trafficking;
  • Possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000;
  • Possession of stolen property under $5,000;
  • Resisting a peace officer;
  • Obstructing a peace officer;
  • Personating with intent to avoid arrest;
  • Assaulting a peace officer;
  • Operating a conveyance while prohibited.

He also faces two counts of failing to comply with a release order.

Heathen made his first court appearance via telephone in Lloydminster Provincial Court Tuesday morning.
