Dominance on special teams wrote the story for the Battlefords North Stars Saturday, as the team extended their winning streak to four games, with a 4-1 victory over the Nipawin Hawks in North Battleford.

The power play was nothing short of lethal for the Stars, as all four of the team’s goals came on the man-advantage – which went 4-for-4 on the night – and the penalty kill remained perfect as well, successfully killing off all three Nipawin power play tries.

Tynan Ewart led the way for the Battlefords offensively, with a goal and an assist on the night, while captain Ryland McNinch, K.T. Walters and Jordan Grill also notched a power play marker apiece and Keiton Klein added two assists.

In goal, Michael Harroch stopped 33 of 34 Hawks’ shots for the victory, providing the team a solid backbone throughout the night.

Nipawin’s Joel Mabin scored the Hawks’ lone goal in the third period, while goalie Chase Hamm saved 32 of 36 Stars’ shots in the loss.

McNinch’s ninth of the season opened the scoring 8:29 into the first period, coming off the deflection of an Ewart shot from the line to make it 1-0 Battlefords; a lead the home-side would take to the first intermission.

Just 1:20 into the second, Ewart again engineered a power play marker for his team, this time sniping his second of the year from the blue line to make it 2-0 Battlefords.

Before the second intermission, Walters picked his spot on a shot from inside the circle to stretch the lead to 3-0, cashing in for his seventh of the campaign heading into the third period.

Mabin’s fifth of the year was Nipawin’s lone goal, cutting the Stars’ lead to 3-1, but that is as close as the Hawks would come.

Jordan Grill’s third then iced the cake, coming on a shot from the left slot to make it 4-1, as the defenceman crept in to join the attack on the play.

With the victory the Stars are now 14-6-2 this season, and sit just a single point back of Estevan for second overall in the league standings, though the Bruins hold two games in-hand.

Nipawin are now 8-9-2, but retain eighth overall in the league.

The Stars will return to play in their bid for a fifth-straight victory, Friday, Nov. 19 in Nipawin for the back-half of their home-and-home with the Hawks.

Friday’s NAPA Auto Parts North Stars Hockey Broadcast will be available on 1050 CJNB. The Ultra Print Pregame Show will begin at 7 p.m., with puck drop to follow at 7:30 p.m.
