She-NANIGANS to feature busy weekend of live music

Nov 12, 2021 | 2:23 PM

It is a big weekend ahead at She-NANIGANS, as the local live entertainment boutique will host a pair of live musical performances Friday and Saturday evening in the community.

Chickadee Songwriters Circle

The Chickadee Songwriters circle is generally held the first Friday of each month, but was bumped back to the second Friday in November, to be held this weekend.

Featuring different musical guests each month, the event has become a staple of the She-NANIGANS catalog since first introduced in 2020.

Hosted by local area musician, Doug Sylvester, the event offers a chance for those in the community to not only listen to the music of Sask. and area musicians, but also the stories behind the songs as well.

Featured Friday will be multiple Juno Award nominee, Jay Semko of Northern Pikes fame, and Berkley Jodoin, who will perform in addition to Sylvester.

“They get up on stage, play some of their original works and just talk about their inspirations, how their ideas came about, and that sort of thing,” Glennda Ilett of She-NANIGANS said. “So it’s a story telling and singing and performing evening.”

Playing primarily a mix of indie, folk and rock, Friday’s event will begin at 7:20 p.m.

Brothers G

Saturday, the weekend of spotlighting Saskatchewan music continues, as the venue will present the Brothers G.

Made up of four young musicians from nearby Hafford, Ilett gave battlefordsNOW a feel for what people can expect to see when the band comes to town.

“They are young guys – young farm kids – who have an influence from blues to country rock, and they’re just all around good guys and great musicians with really high energy,” she said.

Illett said just being able to host events like the two this weekend, where people can go to enjoy live music has been something she and She-Nanigans co-owner, Kelly Waters have been very happy to be able to return to doing this year following the shutdown last year due to the pandemic.

“It’s tremendous,” she said. “We’re full-steam ahead with as many events as we can book. Some people [seem to] still be a little bit nervous about going into group settings, but every time we open up it’s better and better.”

Saturday’s concert will begin at 8 p.m.

Tickets for Friday and Saturday night’s shows are available at the She-NANAGINS website, or at the door.
