Stars win second straight, bounce Klippers 3-1

Nov 9, 2021 | 11:19 PM

The Battlefords North Stars topped Kindersley 3-1 Tuesday, to win their second straight game on home ice.

Rookie goaltender, Lowen Kenyon led the way for the team, turning aside 29 of 30 Klippers’ shots on the night, while Zane Florence and Colby Bear added a goal and an assist each and Ethan Scriven also scored on the night.

Kindersley’s lone goal came just 33 seconds into the contest, when forward Max Kathol jammed home his first of the season for an early 1-0 Kilppers lead.

Just 13:20 later, Florence’s fourth of the year – and second in his last two games – made it a tie contest at 1-1. Florence’s goal came off a quick release to the top shelf from in front, converting on a deft pass from Bear behind the net for the second time in as many games.

Scriven’s second of the year then made it 2-1 heading into the first intermission, when Ryland McNinch fed the 17-year-old forward just inside the blue line with open space to walk into the high slot and sling home the go-ahead marker.

In the second, Bear’s sixth of the year, in just his ninth game of the season, provided an insurance marker at 3-1 Stars. Bear converted on the rebound of a Zane Florence breakaway chance in front for the tally.

Kindersley’s Matthew Pesenti stopped 29 of 32 North Stars’ shots to keep his team in the game for much of the night, though ultimately the Stars would hold the visitors to just the single goal.

The Stars’ penalty kill also responded with a big night, as the team killed all four Kindersley power plays, including a lengthy four-minute double-minor in the second period to keep the lead throughout the night.

With the win, the North Stars leapfrog Flin Flon for third overall in the league standings at 12-6-2 on the year, giving them 26 points. That said, the Bombers do have 24 points with two games in-hand on the Battlefords.

Kinderlsey fall to 9-9-1 on the season, though the team has still won six of their last 10 games, overall.

The Stars will look for their third-straight win Friday, when they travel to Kindersley to play the back-half of the teams’ home-and-home this week. Friday’s game will be available on 1050 CJNB. The Ultra Print Pregame Show will begin at 7 p.m., with puck drop at 7:30 p.m.
