BUH Foundation names new Executive Director

The Battlefords Union Hospital Foundation (BUH) has found its next executive director ahead of the Christmas season.

Leanne Ducommun will take over the role, following a selection process that involved several other candidates. This follows the announcement from this summer that longtime leader Claudette McGuire had decided to retire.

Already known throughout the community, Ducommun spent the last 10 years as the Marketing and Communication manager for Discovery Co-op and was in sales with Battlefords Publishing for more than a decade. A longtime volunteer with the foundation, she has also spent many hours at BUH Foundation events and has grown passionate for their work.

In a media release, Monday, BUHF acknowledged Ducommun’s experience and knowledge surrounding strategic planning and public relations as key to the hire.

“I am excited to have Leanne join the BUH Foundation with her knowledge, enthusiasm and already proven interest having volunteered for the foundation,” BUHF Chair Sue Pruden-McIvor said. “She will make an excellent leader and co- worker moving BUHF past the pandemic, bringing new ideas always supporting Battleford Union Hospital staff, education and equipment needs.”

Ducommun told battlefordsNOW she’s excited about this new role, which fulfills a passion of hers. While she spent almost 20 years serving as a volunteer in some capacity, her time with Discovery Co-op also gave her plenty of insight into how local organizations in the area, including the Foundation.

“So I got to know a lot of the non-profits and I was really passionate about all the initiatives that they had,” Ducommun said. “The foundation’s fundraising initiatives have such a positive impact on the community and on so many lives.”

From her decade working at Discovery Co-op, Ducommun said the company’s strong branding has been a key lesson, which she will bring with her to BUHF.

“It’s critical to every business and every non-profit and the brand that the BUH Foundation stands for sounds very strong, very proud and is aimed at gearing towards a better future,” she said. “Considering what we’ve been through with this pandemic, it’s more important than ever that what that we see our way clear through brighter days ahead.”

She is joined in the leadership group by fund development officer Shauna McGifford (who served as the interim executive director the past few months) and office administrator Sheila Stensrud.

Ducommun officially takes the reigns on November 15.
