Saskatchewan’s high school cross-country running championship wrapped up over the weekend with Edam taking home a team title.

H. Hardcastle School posted a category best 79 points in the 1-A category at the 2021 SHSAA Cross Country Running Provincial Championship, which was hosted at the Carlton Trail Ski Club’s Dixon Hills near Humboldt, Sask. This course, cutting through natural forest, wilderness trails, and fields, provided challenging and varied terrain, as well as elevation changes. Edam blew their competition away, as their 79 points were 51 fewer than second place Muenster (having lower point totals is the goal).

One of the school’s best results was Senior Girls runner Carli Mosimann, posting a time of 18:31 in her 4-km heat to finish 14th. Intermediate Boys runner Carter Cole ran 3-km in 11:22, good for eighth in his category.

Unity Composite High School also had a strong showing, finishing second amongst 3-A teams. The school’s best individual result was Senior Boys runner Graden Rusk, who finished his 5-km heat with a time of 19:20, good enough for 15th.

Ty Thiessen of Lloydminster Comprehensive High School was another solid runner for the region, finishing ninth in the Senior Boys category with a time of 18:21. Lloyd Comp finished just ahead of North Battleford Comprehensive in the team standings. NBCHS’ best individual result was Reece Sommerfeld, who’s 20:50 finished was good for 19th in Junior Girls.

Regina Campbell was the 5-A champion.
