Maidstone RCMP are investigating an incident at Milleton Community Hall, where numerous items were taken.

Sometime between Aug. 31 and Sept. 6, someone entered the hall, located around 20 minutes north of Maidstone, leaving with the majority of appliances, kitchenware and housewares in the building. The list of items includes:

  • A microwave;
  • A vacuum cleaner;
  • A water cooler;
  • Approximately 50 salt and pepper sets;
  • Several large stainless steel bowls;
  • All plastic wrap;
  • All aluminum foil;
  • Three-to-four dozen dish towels;
  • Around 24 dish cloths;
  • Eight to 10 large plastic tubs;
  • Two roaster ovens;
  • 30 red and white gingham tablecloths;
  • Two electric tea kettles;
  • Two three-quart pots;
  • Several large, heavy duty restaurant-type pots with lids;
  • Two coffee makers;
  • Several large boxes of assorted plastic cutlery;
  • Three large square green garbage cans;
  • A coffee butler/thermos.

In a media release, Sgt. Jolyne Harrison, detachment commander in Maidstone, noted the significance of this incident for residents in the area.

“Many of the things that were taken are kitchenware and houseware used for community events,” she said. “Everyone in rural Saskatchewan will understand how important these items are to a community hub, such as a local town hall.”

Several blankets, sets of keys and a left-hand bow and arrows were also reported as stolen. Some of the items are marked with a marker indicating they belong to the hall.

Anyone with information on this incident can call the Maidstone RCMP detachment or submit a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

More stolen vehicles

St. Walburg RCMP are investigating a complaint of both vehicle theft and mischief.

Earlier today, the detachment was called regarding a theft from a rural land location in the RM of Frenchman Butte. The stolen pickup truck is described as a black 2008 Chevrolet Silverado, with a silver handle on the tailgate and a Saskatchewan license plate of 415-MEP. Shortly after, police received a report of a grey minivan in the area attempting to steal a vehicle.

As the investigation continues, police are seeking public assistance. Tips can be submitted to St. Walburg RCMP, 301-RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
