Police looking for stolen vehicles in Turtleford, surrounding communities

Oct 6, 2021 | 2:53 PM

Turtleford RCMP are investigating another off-road vehicle theft.

Police received a report of a quad theft occurring overnight at a residence in the Town of Turtleford on Tuesday. It’s described as a red Honda 300 4×4, with a black wooden tool box attached to the front and a black two-up seat with side compartments on the back.

Cpl. Dwight Sacrey of the Turtleford RCMP detachment said they’ve seen an increase in all-terrain vehicle thefts in the region in recent months.

“This time of the year, people use quads more frequently, for things like hunting,” he said. “So more of them are likely left outside unattended.”

He did note that several incidents have occurred where the keys were secured inside a residence.

“Lots of these criminals seem to have the ability to start them without a key, or push them away to another location,” he said.

Sacrey added that he isn’t sure of any link between the thefts. The detachment, which covers a large area north of Lloydminster and the Battlefords, has seen these cases of stolen vehicles in several areas.

“Turtleford, Frenchman Butte, Glaslyn, Turtle Lake, St. Walburg, there’s lots of spots,” Sacrey said. “I think, unfortunately, there’s lots of people out there looking for those opportunities to take these vehicles.”

For others looking to go quadding this fall, Sacrey urged residents to keep their vehicles in a garage if possible, or secure it with chains or locks on the property.

“First and foremost, don’t leave them in an area where they’re visible to a potential criminal,” he said. “If you keep stuff out of sight, chances of it being stolen are less likely.”

Car theft near Medstead

Glaslyn RCMP are also looking for a stolen vehicle, this one taken from a rural land location in the RM of Medstead.

The car is described as a white 2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue with a Saskatchewan licence plate of 654-MII. The theft reportedly occurred overnight.

As police investigate these incidents, residents with relevant information are asked to call their local detachment, 310-RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
