Chickadees Songwriters’ Circle returning to She-NANIGANS

Sep 27, 2021 | 6:33 PM

Those who love to hear live music will want to check out the Chickadees Songwriters’ Circle coming to She-NANIGANS performance venue in North Battleford.

The show will feature local singer-songwriters Doug Sylvester, Brent Nixon, Scott Jamieson and Laird Brittin for this performance.

Sylvester, who hosts the Songwriters’ Circle, said it will be an eclectic offering.

“Anybody that’s interested in hearing live music again… it’s a really nice room to play in. It sounds great, there is great acoustics in it, and it’s a nice environment,” he said.

The show will take place Oct. 1, with tickets available through the
She-NANIGANS website.

People can expect to hear a variety of original songs from the country, folk, and rock genres, as well as a few cover tunes.

“It’s a wide variety of styles, for the songs as they were meant to be sung by the composers,” Sylvester said.

COVID-19 precautions will be in place during the evening.

Co-wrote song for “The Voice” singer

Sylvester, of North Battleford, collaborated with some U.S. song crafters to help propel a U.S. singer to garner a spot in a popular televised American singing competition.

He co-wrote the love song, “I’m You,” with songwriters’ Buc Williams and Phil Jackson. Singer Joshua Vacanti sang this song with his wife, Samantha, for Joshua’s successful audition for the popular NBC TV show, “The Voice.”

“So that was cool. It’s quite a neat song we did,” Sylvester said. “And it’s interesting because the other songwriters were from Michigan.”

Sylvester said they collaborated to write the song by connecting through the Zoom online platform over a year ago, in the midst of the COVID pandemic.

“We were just talking about the idea that you become what you love,” he said of creating the song. “We talked about it in a marriage relationship, and that is sort of the birth of that song.”

Sylvester mentioned that Vacanti is doing well, and now has John Legend as his coach.

Sylvester is hoping “The Voice” will use some of the audition song “I’m You,” adding that the show has been good publicity for the song, which is getting lots of hits on YouTube.
