Town, city encourage people to stay safe as delta variant increases

The Town of Battleford and the City of North Battleford are advising people to take precautions as the prevalence of the delta variant is reported to be increasing in the area.

The City of North Battleford added a post to its Facebook Page Tuesday encouraging people to wear masks at city facilities.

“If you are visiting a city facility, wearing a mask is strongly encouraged,” the city states. “Prevent. Protect. Respect.”

Battleford Mayor Ames Leslie discussed concerns about the delta variant during council’s meeting Tuesday.

“I just want to remind everybody the delta variant is quite rampant in our community,” he said. “So if you do need a mask, make that choice and wear a mask where you feel it is appropriate.”

Leslie added the vaccinations are working to help lessen the impact of COVID-19, especially the delta variant.

“If you can find it within yourself to get out and get the vaccination, it is your choice,” he said. “We will respect your choice. But if you can find some way to make that decision to help us get through it, that would be much appreciated.”
