Two dead following alleged drunk driving incident at Big River First Nation

A 40-year-old woman from Big River First Nation is facing two charges of impaired driving causing death in connection to a tragic incident early Sunday morning on the reserve.

At approximately 1:40 a.m., RCMP were dispatched to a collision near the community’s high school. The investigation determined that a truck and a side-by-side had collided on the roadway.

The side-by-side‘s driver, a 50-year-old man, and the passenger, a 42-year-old man, were both declared deceased at the scene. Both men were from the Big River First Nation.

The driver and the passenger of the truck were transported to hospital with what are described as non-life-threatening injuries.

As a result of investigation, the driver, Sheila Rabbitskin was arrested and charged with two counts of impaired operation of a conveyance causing death, and one count, operation while prohibited.

She appeared Tuesday at Prince Albert Provincial Court, and was remanded to Wednesday morning.
